Scout Badges at the North Hills Art Center
The North Hills Art Center can provide your scouts Brownies, Jr. Girl Scouts, Cadets, Cub and Boy Scouts, with the requirements they need to complete and earn the following art badges.
All workshops must have a minimum of 5 scouts and a deposit of $ 50.00 must be paid one week prior to the workshop.
FOR YOUNGER SCOUTS
Art to Wear
Scouts will fabric paint a T-shirt, and then create their own jewelry by working with beads and knots. Scouts must provide their own t-shirt to dye, as the art center does NOT supply any articles to dye.

Colors and Shapes
Try stamping with sponges, build a mobile, dough sculpture, a paper woven mat, and painting a picture while exploring color.

Movers
Create wind wheels, make a kite, fashion several kinds of paper airplanes, and a raft from twigs as you learn all about things that move.

Puppets, Dolls, and Plays
This workshop will show Scouts how to make finger puppets, a yarn doll, a paper bag puppet, and a marionette to use in creating plays.

SCOUTING WORKSHOPS
Architecture
Scouts will learn about different styles of architecture and get started designing their own spaces. Projects include designing a garden, creating a scale drawing, and designing a building to accommodate people of all needs.

Art in 3-D
Scouts work in found object art, three dimensional design, and abstract sculpture. They also have the option of visiting our art gallery.

Art to Wear
Projects for this workshop can include tie dying, macramé, quilting, braiding, fringe, and beadwork. Weaving and batik can also be discussed Scouts should bring their own item to tie dye, as the North Hills Art Center does not supply any materials to dye in this workshop.

Ceramics and Clay
Scouts explore the art of hand-built pottery using the slab method, coil method, and modeling. A demonstration of wheel throwing and the workings of a kiln will be explored. Pieces must be left at the center to be fired and are to be picked up by the troop leaders at a later date.
Workshop price: $17 per Scout
3 hours OR $ 27 per Scout if leaders would like to schedule an additional 2 hour glazing workshop to glaze all clay pieces.

Drawing and Painting
Come explore paints, crayons, pastels, colored pencils and more while learning different drawing and painting techniques including perspective, shading, and proportion. Scouts will also explore the use of a color wheel in art.

Jeweler
The art of jewelry is the focus as scouts create jewelry from found objects, objects found in nature, and macramé knots, as well as creating their own unique jewelry box. A tour of the gallery is included.

Prints and Graphics
The many aspects of printmaking are explored and projects can include relief printing from natural materials, stenciling, linoleum block printing, and spatter or sun printing.

Yarn and Fabric Arts
Projects can include loom work and weaving, macramé, tie dying, and embroidery. (Scouts must bring item to tie dye with them, as the North Hills Art Center does not supply items to be dyed with this workshop.)

Visual Arts
Scouts study mixing colors, shades, and tints, as well as exploring primary and secondary colors and the color wheel in this workshop. Scouts will also design a picture in black and white.
